Yippee Kai...Oh Never Mind!

While at a very cool conference this week, we were talking about our backgrounds....I spoke of being named for a rodeo cowboy my dad admired (Google Barton Carter, Oklahoma 1920's rodeo) and also growing up in Montana. "You got a cowboy hat?" Nope "Boots?" Nope. I also admitted that I've ridden a horse about twice in my life...both times more like a little pony ride sort of thing. That disclosure led to my new-found friends riffing on "wouldn't it be funny if Bart's cowboy career consisted of......" So I dashed off a sketch.

I actually heard this conversation!

This one's from a few years back. I overheard this conversation fragment in a coffeeshop...when I lived in a town that HAD a coffeeshop... SOB!
Anyway....I have some great fun new markers and my fun sketchbook with me.  Once I'm near a scanner again, I hope to show off the new pens.

Not Ready for That!

All right fall....Bring It!
This week some kids told me they were eager for....winter! Yikes! I'm not ready for fall. I notice that the first official day of autumn is a day or two away and that seems waaaayyyy too soon. Leaves began to turn here a couple of weeks ago. It's frozen over night once or twice. Oh summer, where art thou?

Once upon a time in 1993

Valentines' Date Night in 1994
We like to mark anniversaries at our house. This week is both the nineteenth anniversary of my ordination as a pastor in the Lutheran Church (ELCA) and the twentieth anniversary of our first date. As we speak, I'm getting myself ready for tomorrow's work and today's date.

Still making faces

It seemed like a fun idea to try to fill all the white space on a page of the sketch book. It WAS fun! My brother (the one who studied art and does the real deal) tells me he likes to do outlines of a face or other scene and then fill it in with smaller iterations that match the face or theme. Hmmmmmm
